Yellawt | Digital Marketing and UI UX

John Keells Foundation 20th Anniversary Website Revamp

When looking for premier website design Sri Lanka solutions, corporate organisations need platforms that blend intuitive user experience with enterprise-grade reliability. As a leading agency for website design Sri Lanka, Yellawt was chosen by the John Keells Foundation (JKF) to execute a complete digital revamp celebrating a major corporate milestone.

About John Keells Foundation

John Keells Foundation (JKF) is the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of John Keells Holdings PLC—one of Sri Lanka’s largest and most respected conglomerates. Incorporated as a voluntary social service organisation, the Foundation drives sustainable community development initiatives across the island under its core vision: “Empowering the Nation for Tomorrow.”

Operating across vital focus areas—including Education, Health, Environment, Livelihood Development, Arts & Culture, and Disaster Relief—JKF touches thousands of lives annually through key national programs such as Praja Shakthi, Plasticcycle, and the iconic Kala Pola art fair.

Challenge

When John Keells Foundation reached out to Yellawt to revamp their website for their 20th Anniversary, it represented a critical milestone for their brand. Two decades of impactful community work meant the platform housed a massive volume of content, initiatives, and sector reports—but the user experience was severely hindered.

  • Messy Linking System: Navigation was cluttered and fragmented, making it frustrating for visitors to jump between sectors or locate specific initiatives.
  • Complex Sector Architecture: Organizing multiple sectors, sub-programs, and annual reports without overwhelming the user was a primary technical and design hurdle.
  • Focusing Beyond Aesthetics: The goal wasn’t just making the site look polished; it was about engineering a seamless experience that allowed any user to navigate effortlessly.

Approach

Yellawt completely overhauled the site’s navigation framework, restructuring how each sector and initiative connected to build an intuitive, clutter-free experience.

“Good design is not what looks sharp and clean or modern—it’s understanding what works best for the market, and the brand itself.”

1. Pivoting from “Ultra-Modern” to a Culturally Grounded UI

At first, our team designed an extremely modern, sleek visual concept. While it looked sharp, collaborative reviews with the JKF team revealed it missed the mark—it was too abstract and lacked the approachable warmth needed for their broad local audience. We pivoted to a Sri Lankan-friendly UI design: familiar, clean, and intuitive for any individual regardless of tech familiarity.

2. Seamless Navigation & Sector Restructuring

We dismantled the tangled link system and replaced it with a structured hierarchy. Each CSR sector was given a clear, logical flow, allowing visitors to explore project milestones, news, and reports in just a few clicks.

3. Optimized WordPress Development Sri Lanka

Built on a high-performance, customised WordPress architecture, allowing the JKF internal team to publish updates, media releases, and impact reports effortlessly while maintaining visual consistency.

Results

After iterative refinements, all teams aligned on a clean, functional design, resulting in the successful launch of www.johnkeellsfoundation.com.

  • Frictionless User Experience: A simplified UX and familiar layout that drastically improved content discoverability across all six CSR sectors.
  • Market-Aligned Design: A warm, accessible aesthetic tailored specifically to the needs and expectations of local and global stakeholders.
  • High-Performance Infrastructure: Optimized WordPress development delivering rapid load times and smooth responsiveness across mobile and desktop.
  • Long-Term Infrastructure Partnership: Following the successful launch, Yellawt now manages, hosts, and maintains both the main John Keells Foundation platform and their dedicated Kala Pola website on Yellawt’s high-performance servers.
